INVESTIGATOR REPORT:
Sheriff Northman asked me to investigate a reported human incident in New Orleans, and I traveled to the location per his request.
Upon arrival, I found the neon sign in the window still lit, but the door was ajar. I found this unusual. In my experience, humans never do that. The scent of blood and death were evident before entering the premises.
On entering, I turned on the light. Blood was splattered throughout the room, and ritualistic symbols were smeared on the walls in blood. The human victim’s body was found on the floor, semi-prone.
The heart had been removed from the victim’s body, and the wound would indicate that removal as the cause of death. The amount of blood on the victim made it difficult to determine the exact murder weapon used, but it would have to be a sharp object of some sort. No weapon was found on the scene, and therefore, I must assume it was removed by the killer. In the chest cavity, a Jack of Hearts was found lying where her heart was. I pulled out an evidence bag from my pocket, pulled on some latex gloves and extracted the card. I’m not sure what it means, but my experience tells me that the card is definitely a message of some sort. Maybe even a literal calling card left by the killer.
Victim had a single vampire bite on her neck. It was unclear whether the bite was made by the killer or by a reported witness. According to Sheriff Northman, a human female acqaintance of the victim walked into the crime scene after the fact and found the body. She claimed to have seen a “handsome male vampire” who was “covered in blood” on the scene, though she did not believe that this vampire was the killer. Based on my observations, it is possible that the human female saw the vampire responsible for the bite on the deceased victim. Preliminary observations of the fang marks indicate the vampire is relatively newly made (10-36 years old), between 5’9”-5’11” in height.
No footprints or fingerprints were evident. The front door was ajar and the window near the body was open, leaving both as possible entry and exit.
Putrification of the body had begun, and based on my observations, I’d place the time of death at within the last 48 hours.
